Final Fantasy I and II Now Available in the App Store

Buzz It

Share
Both Final Fantasy I and Final Fantasy II for the iPhone and iPod touch are now available in the App Store.

FINAL FANTASY

Initially released in Japan in 1987, the original FINAL FANTASY amazed audiences with its rich story and stunning graphics.

Players guide the Warriors of Light as they set out on a quest to restore the crystals to their former luster. Its side view battles, choice and promotion of character classes, and sprawling world explored with fantastic vehicles quickly became standards of the series. This game set the stage for all FINAL FANTASY games to come.

This edition also contains the bonus dungeons added to later editions of the game--the Soul of Chaos and the Labyrinth of Time.

You can purchase FINAL FANTASY from the App Store for $8.99.

FINAL FANTASY II

The highly anticipated follow-up to the original FINAL FANTASY, released in Japan in 1988.

FINAL FANTASY II features the bitter and beautiful tale of four war-orphaned heroes who become embroiled in the conflict between the hostile Empire of Palamecia and the rebel resistance. Eschewing conventional leveling for a proficiency system that allows players to tailor their characters' growth, and incorporating a key term memory system that makes dialogue integral to gameplay, this game sparked the spirit of innovation for which the series has become known.

This edition also contains the bonus dungeons added to later editions of the game--the Soul of Rebirth and the Arcane Labyrinth.

You can purchase FINAL FANTASY II from the App Store for $8.99.

Friskies causes elaborate daydreams in cats

Buzz It

Share
The cat in this Friskies spot from Avrett Free Ginsberg sure takes one interesting trip. I'd always assumed tabby fantasies were strewn with mice carcasses, headless canaries and the streaming entrails of freshly gutted fish. Oh wait, those are my fantasies. I've gotta cut down on the ... what's that stuff called? You know, the stuff that cats nip at? Anyway, the whiskered wonder here seems happy, so I guess that's all that counts. I bet the kid in the pet carrier from the Boost Mobile commercial could go for some Friskies right about now. And before you make with the nasty comments, consider: It probably beats airline food.

10 Essential Chrome Extensions for Web Developers

Buzz It

Share
As a web developer, you’re probably among the earliest adopters of new browser technologies. Google’s relatively new Chrome browser is one of those products that developers jumped all over as soon as it became available, but its initial lack of extensions was a dealbreaker for many.

Now extensions are supported in Chrome and some of the tools you’re accustomed to using in Firefox have become available, plus a few unique to Chrome. We’ve compiled a list of ten of the most useful Chrome extensions for web developers right here; if you use these extensions, you might even be able to make Chrome your main workhorse. Maybe!

Read more to look at the list and give it a try — and if there are any great ones that we missed, be sure and share them with us and the other readers in the comments.

iPhone 3GS Modded With Titanium Back

Buzz It

Share
Unhappy with the plastic feel of his iPhone 3GS, romazzino used CAD to design a titanium back cover for his device.

"Basically I designed a new back cover for the 3GS. I had the original cover measured digitally, and I then started to draw the new cover in CAD. It's made out of a special titanium alloy that is RF transparent. I had tried aluminum but that was a complete disaster."

Romazzino didn't post the material cost of the titanium used. If reasonable I'm sure many people would love a phone that matched their MacBook or iMac. Personally I find the Apple logo far to large but otherwise the mod looks great!

iPhone 4G Concept: Super AMOLED Screen, Video Conferencing and Flash

Buzz It

Share

Just came across this next-generation iPhone 4G concept image which shows off a Super AMOLED screen, a front-facing camera for video conferencing via iChat, and an LED Flashlight on the backside for the 5 megapixel camera. We all know how AMOLED screens produces crisp and vivid contrasts compared to the traditional LED displays on iPhones. The recently announced Samsung Wave has gone a step further by introducing Super AMOLED display technology which is an improved version of AMOLED, seen on the devices like Nexus One.

The difference between the traditional LED on iPhone 3GS vs AMOLED display on Nexus One can be seen in the image below.
You can clearly see how washed-out the iPhone 3GS display (on top) looks in comparison to the one on Nexus One.

And here is that conceptual next-generation iPhone 4G image with Super AMOLED display, a front facing camera and LED flash. Credit for the image goes to an Italian forum member named Gekino.

Now if only Steve Jobs and Co. make this a reality for all of us come this June at WWDC 2010, where Apple is expected to announce their next iPhone.

Windows Phone 7 Series faces off against its Windows Mobile past

Buzz It

Share
This is a comparison of core OS functionality and differences, handset skins and carrier tweaks aren't factored in.

If you couldn't tell from the chart above, the "differences" between Windows Phone 7 Series and Windows Mobile of yore (last week) are rather hard to quantify: it's like comparing a bed with an oven. Two very different things, for two very different purposes. Windows Mobile has had a justifiable position in the realm of business, and will probably continue to maintain a legacy install base for some time to come, but it's pretty safe to say that the days of Windows Mobile as a consumer-facing OS are rapidly coming to an end. Bring on the new!

Dell Mini 5 will run 'something newer' than Android 1.6 at launch

Buzz It

Share

We've been able to confirm in a chat with Dell spokesfolks this evening that the lovely Mini 5 won't ship with the Android 1.6 build (also known as Donut) that we've seen so far -- instead, it'll be running "something newer." They wouldn't say what that newer version would be -- and to be fair, we're not sure they even knew since Android is always a moving target on account of Google's breakneck development pace -- but it was specifically mentioned that Flash compatibility was something they had on their radar, suggesting that something really, really fresh might be needed. Then again, they also mentioned that the giant phone / MID / thingamajig is going to be totally upgradeable, something that fellow Android skinners HTC and Motorola have both had to reassure the Android-buying public over. How this all shakes out remains to be seen, but let's put it this way: Eclair, at minimum, seems to be a lock by the time the Mini 5 is on a shelf near you.

Motorola MOTOROI hands-on with video

Buzz It

Share

The Motorola MOTOROI is definitely a stunner, but the looks are almost surpassed by just how amazing it feels, it glows with quality -- think Milestone, but somehow nicer. The display and UI on this Android 2.0 set are right on, with no lag to speak of -- in our really limited hanging-from-a-tether-being-jostled take on it -- while flipping about the OS. Sadly, like most other sets on display, the internet wasn't going anywhere for us to really take it for a spin. But, hey, the MOTOROI is apparently headed to the US in March, and we're without a doubt going to get a little more in-depth with this phone just as soon as we're able.

Nokia Feel app suggests activities based on your emotional state

Still feeling an overabundance of nervous energy over this morning's big announcement? (No, the other one.) Well, then, Nokia has just the thing for you, in the form of a little app called Feel. Simply tell your handset how you're, well, feeling, and it gives you suggestions as to how you might best use the device. Feeling creative? Take a picture. Energetic? Put in your earphones and dance, dance, dance. Feel like... giving it a shot? Hit the source link to get in on the beta test. Merely curious? Check out the video (hosted by a man who ironically seems to have little affect) after the break. Already bored by the concept? There's nothing we can do for you there, sadly -- but empathize.

Motorola Quench hands-on

Buzz It

Share

We had a quick tour today of Motorola's new Quench -- or CLIQ XT as it'll be called on T-Mobile USA when it launches next month -- and for an eighth outing in the Android world, it's pretty slick. Sure it lacks keyboard, but the touchscreen is pretty responsive and now includes Swype input on the virtual keyboard -- and we've found with a bit of practice and patience, Swype can be really fast. The soft touch plastic rear of the set can be removed to slip on over covers and shows off the 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and dual LED flash.
